On Monday, November 20, the National Director of State Borders and Boundaries, Ambassador Ximena Fuentes, made a presentation at the Workshop for Training and Planning for Coordinated Border Areas Audit that took place at the premises of the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic of Chile between November 20 and 22. Her lecture was aimed at staff members from different Supreme Audit Institutions of the Organization of Latin American and Caribbean Superior Audit Institutions (OLACEFS).
This workshop constituted an introduction for a coordinated audit at continental level about governance of public policies that are implemented at the borders of the member countries of the OLACEFS, focused on matters of migration control, control of goods, promotion of sustainable development, management of shared natural resources at the borders, safety and defence.
In this respect, Ambassador Ximena Fuentes gave her presentation in the context of the coordinating nature of the National Department of State Borders and Boundaries (DIFROL) in State actions in the border area. She indicated that, although there are several institutions under various Ministries dealing with border issues (for example, the National Customs Service, the Agriculture and Livestock Service, Carabineros de Chile, the Criminal Investigation Police, the Border Crossing Points Unit under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, among others), all are coordinated by this National Department on issues relating to the borders.
