On Wednesday, September 9, the National Director of Boundaries and Frontiones, Ambassador Ximena Fuentes Torrijo, participated in an event organized jointly by the Diplomatic Academy of Chile “Andrés Bello” and the Diplomatic Academy of Ecuador.

“Blue Diplomacy: A look at the main regional and global political processes regarding ocean-related issues,” in which Director Fuentes presented, was part of a cycle of conferences organized by both academies, aiming to analyze the international and regional political situation.

In her speech -which was held online as a result of the Covid-19 crisis- Director Fuentes spoke about the process of extending the continental platform for the Isla de Salas y Gómez. The expert gave an account of the work process carried out by our country’s team on this issue, making a detailed graphic presentation. Ambassador Fuentes also presented other interesting case studies, such as the presentation made by Norway regarding Bouvetøya Island and Dronning Maud Land.

After his presentation, the Ambassador of Ecuador in Chile, Homero Arellano, made final comments.
