Chile and Peru held the Second Extraordinary Meeting of the Permanent Joint Boundary Commission
On November 18, 2024, the Second Extraordinary Meeting of the Permanent Mixed Boundary Commission between Chile and Peru was held, reaffirming the commitment of both countries to advance the demarcation of their international boundary.
The beginning of the day was attended by the Ambassador of Peru in Chile, Mrs. Silvia Alfaro Espinosa, who stressed the importance of diplomatic dialogue as a basis for bilateral relations.
The meeting was chaired by the President of the Chilean Boundary Commission and current President of the Joint Commission Mr. Samy Hawa Arellano, who was accompanied by the delegates Mr. Rodrigo Muñoz Guerrero and Mr. Juan Pablo Benavides Monsalve and the Secretary of said commission Mrs. Marta Mateluna Ríos, together with the Second Secretary Mr. Cristián Davis Acosta and the Geomatic Engineer Mr. Marcelo Asenjo Fernandoy. For its part, the Peruvian delegation of Boundaries was chaired by Ambassador Mrs. María Elvira Velásquez Rivas Plata who was accompanied by the delegates Minister Mr. Gustavo Alonso Figueroa Navarro, Mr. José Francisco Gianella Herrera and Mr. Elder Junior Fernández Ibarra, together with the Counsellor of the Embassy of Peru Mrs. Claudia Miranda.
During the session, the delegations prepared the Work Plan of the Joint Commission for the period 2024/2025, focused on both field and cabinet activities, regarding which, there was full agreement on the progress and planning of future tasks.
At the end of the meeting, the Presidents of both Delegations expressed their satisfaction with the progress achieved, which is in line with the permanent policy of their respective governments, and which endorses the permanent aspiration for cooperation and strengthening of relations between two brother countries.
