XII Meeting of the Peru-Chile Border Integration and Development Committee
In the city of Tacna, on November 8 and 9, 2023, the XII Meeting of the Peru-Chile Border Integration and Development Committee was held. The delegations of Peru and Chile were chaired by Minister Raúl Hidalgo, Director of Development and Border Integration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru, and Ambassador Carlos Dettleff, National Director of the National Department of State Borders and Boundaries of Chile, respectively. Also present were the ambassadors of Chile in Peru, Oscar Fuentes, of Peru in Chile, Silvia Alfaro, the Presidential Delegate of the Arica and Parinacota Region, Ricardo Sanzana, as well as representatives of the Agricultural and Livestock Service, Customs, Immigration, Carabineros and Police of Investigations, and their Peruvian counterparts, among others. On the occasion, different areas of work were addressed, through sixteen subcommittees, between the region of Arica and Parinacota and the department of Tacna, and the department of Moquegua (Peru) and the Tarapacá Region were incorporated for the first time. Carlos Dettleff, National Director of the National Department of State Borders and Boundaries of Chile, highlighted that “this Border Integration and Development Committee represents a key piece in the fabric of our relationship with a brother country like Peru, with which we share a border where common realities converge. inhabited by peoples with ancestral roots, by an interconnected landscape and realities, in which activities are carried out with close commercial, cultural and family cross-border ties, initiatives that must be protected and strengthened to benefit the quality of life of our populations.
