Between February 1st and 3rd, the third edition of the Regional Water Dialogs organized by ECLAC, took place in Santiago, Chile. The main subjects of this meeting were the accelerators for the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, with the aim of consolidate the commitments acquires, as well as sharing experiences and lessons on the subject.
This high-level event was attended by the ministry of environment, Maisa Rojas; the Ministry of Public Works, Juan Carlos García; and the ministry of agriculture Esteban Valenzuela; Esteban Valenzuela; as well as ministers and vice presidents of Latin American and Caribbean countries.
From DIFROL there was representation from the Department of Environment, Territorial Analysis and Shared Water Resources, Juan Pablo Aristegui, Gilda Vera and Macarena Bahamondes.
The interest of DIFROL was focused on Water and Cooperation panel, where advances in the transboundary cooperation in the region were explored. On the other hand, bilateral meetings were held with Henk Ovink, Special Envoy of the Netherlands to the United Nations, with UNECE and OAS.
It should be noted that the Regional Water Dialogs were a preparatory event for the United Nations Water Conference, in which DIFROL will also participate with a focus on matters of transboundary cooperation.
