On March 7, the Director of State Borders and Boundaries, Ambassador Ximena Fuentes Torrijo headed the launch of the new website GEOPORTAL specially designed for providing accessibility to territorial and geospatial information that our institution has.
This new tool shall allow DIFROL staff members to have quality access to the main information layers of IDE (Spanish acronym for Spatial Data Infrastructure), which include International Boundary, Border Crossing Points, Boundary Markers, Border Area in Force, Mapping, among others.
In this first stage, GEOPORTAL shall be available to public officers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, in the near future this platform shall be made available to the general public, providing access to information that is relevant to the citizenry, as well as to other State institutions.
In her speech, Ambassador Fuentes highlighted the hard work and efforts demanded to forge ahead with this initiative, which shall automatically impact on the institution’s performance. “The benefits of GEOPORTAL for the maintenance and communication of the information DIFROL handles reflect the work of a highly competent and professional team at the service of the territorial integrity of the country and at the cutting edge of technology”.
Ms. Pamela Castillo, responsible for Coordination of the SNIT Executive Secretariat at the Ministry of National Goods, also made a presentation during the launch ceremony. She explained the objectives of the National System of Territorial Information Coordination and the inter-operability that the system makes possible between different State agencies and the general public.
